Resources for Community Groups
Disabled people have the same desire to participate in a club or community group as everyone else. We want to be and are successful, active members of a range of sporting and recreational groups.
It is illegal for you to deny membership because someone has a disability. SPARC has a number of resources available on its website offering information on how to be inclusive without exceptions.
Your local ParaFed (Paraplegic & Physically Disabled Federation) can liaise and advise you on how to cater for the needs of disabled people in your club or group.
Halberg Trust
Halberg Trust Sport Opportunity advisers work with schools, community groups and sports clubs to provide free training, assistance with policy development, and advise on resources and equipment to include people with disabilities in sport and recreation. Sports Opportunity advisers are located at the Regional Sports Trusts.
To find your nearest trust see www.halberg.co.nz or call SPARC on 0800 228 483.
